Northampton Town Centre
What does it deliver?
By 2021, Northampton will be a
thriving regional centre for business, leisure, shopping and
culture. No where will this be more obvious than in the town
centre, where safe and attractive streets will link vibrant and
popular urban spaces.
While WNDC will help attract new
businesses, people and facilities to the town, a ‘Public Realm’
strategy will make big changes at a street level.
The first phase of this strategy is
already underway. It will revitalise the route from Northampton
Rail Station to All Saints Church at the heart of town. This
includes:
- High quality pedestrian footpaths that reflect the historic
character and architecture of the streets
- Stylish new lighting, signage and street furniture throughout
the route
- Safer, more people friendly road layouts at Castle Station and
the junction between Marefair and Gold Street.
- A new ‘bus interchange’ at Black Lion Hill connecting the train
station to the rest of town
From Castle Station through to Gold Street there will be a new
and refreshing face to Northampton town centre.
