Moat Lane

The regeneration of Moat Lane will showcase the historic heart of Towcester alongside modern new facilities. This includes new public spaces, a hotel, shops and office accommodation.

WNDC has invested over £6 million in the scheme and work has continued to gather pace. The restored Bury Mount and Water Meadows were officially launched in April 2010, marking the first step in the Moat Lane scheme.

Bury Mount is an ancient fortification which has been at the centre of Towcester since medieval times. Now fully restored, it will be a key attraction for years to come and will serve as the centrepiece of the wider Moat Lane development.

The Water Meadows have been inaccessible since they were incorporated into the Easton Neston Estate between 1795 and 1806. The historic park has now been brought back into public ownership and restored for all the local community to enjoy.

The next phases of the Moat lane scheme will see the development of a new civic building to house South Northamptonshire Council, as well as the development of new shops, offices and a boutique hotel.

The Moat Lane partnership consists of South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire County Council, West Northamptonshire Development Corporation and Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited. The project has also received funding from the East Midlands Development Agency and the Homes and Communities Agency.
