The Sandy Lane Relief Road is the second in a series of new roads to be delivered in the south west of Northampton and will enable development at Upton Lodge, including 1,700 new homes and major commercial development.
Continuing northwards from the award-winning Upton Valley Way North, which opened to traffic in May 2009, the Relief Road will also link up with the Sandy Lane Improvement North scheme.
The road runs broadly north / south, connecting into Berrywood Road at its northern end and the A4500 Weedon Road at its southern end.
WNDC has invested £1.7 million in the new road, which as well as supporting new development, will eventually alleviate traffic congestion in nearby villages such as Harpole.
The southern section of the Sandy Lane Relief Road was completed in October 2009. In 2009, it won a CEEQUAL Award in recognition of its high quality design and potential benefits to the area.
