Northampton Borough Council are leading a series of enhancements to the Market Square, regenerating one of Northampton’s oldest and most important assets. WNDC are supporting this activity and have invested £330,000 in an innovative lighting scheme for the renowned public space.
The state of the art LED lighting has made one of the town’s most significant and historic locations a true focal point, even on the darkest of evenings. Vertical strip, flood and spot lighting has been mounted on the buildings to emphasize key elements of the beautiful historical architecture, while new lamp columns have also be installed around the edge of the square, helping visitors feel safe and welcomed within the square at night time.
Vibrant lighting fading from one colour to the next will add to the atmosphere of any event in the market square but the system’s flexibility means themes can be planned for particular occasions, such as red and white for St George’s Day and green for St Patrick’s Day.
The lighting is a key element of Northampton Borough Council’s Market square regeneration programme, which has seen new stall layouts, the installation of a fountain and the creation of a new events space.
