British Timken was once owned by the American roller bearings company and used to be one of Northampton’s biggest employers.
After the factory closed down, the 67 acre factory site was acquired by Bellway Homes and the main building was demolished in 2005.
WNDC granted planning permission for the redevelopment of the British Timken site in Duston in April 2007. The development comprises 480 houses, public open space and significant community facilities. They include the retention of the existing sports hall and the inclusion of an improved sports ground together with junior and senior football pitches, cricket square, archery arena, internal sports courts, and a Multi Use Games Area.
WNDC ensured that the scheme was devised in-line with an agreed design code, meaning that new development is of the highest quality and complements its surroundings.
