This project is about delivering a major improvement in the quality of shopping in the town centre. It takes the form of a new pedestrianised street running parallel to the High Street and incorporates a series of 3 new public open spaces.
The first is a new civic square around which the new library and social services offices will be arranged. The second will transform North Street into a new open space, accommodating in a new street café. It will be designed to entice shoppers into the new street by providing glimpses of the retailing beyond. The third will be a new central square, around which most of the new shops will be arranged and the existing street market may be extended.
WNDC has funded a number a key property acquisitions to enable the future development and will be the planning authority for the scheme. The Corporation is working with Daventry District Council and other key stakeholders to take it to the next stage.
