New Pineham developments to secure jobs in Northampton
West Northamptonshire Development Corporation has granted planning permission for two new business premises at the Pineham Industrial Estate, securing new jobs and investment in Northampton. The development of the buildings is being led by St Clair Land & Developments on behalf of two successful local businesses.
The larger of the two buildings will become the worldwide headquarters of EBC Brakes Ltd, a multi-national firm who manufacture the world’s largest range of vehicle brakes. The firm, which employs 60 staff, is outgrowing its existing premises on Countess Road, Spencer. However, the move to a new purpose built 12,143m² office and industrial unit in Pineham will support their expansion and the recruitment of up to 40 additional employees.
Alongside this development, WNDC has granted planning permission for a 1,800m² office and manufacturing facility for Frem Ltd, a Northampton based company which designs, manufactures and installs interior design solutions for offices. Frem will relocate their existing premises in Moulton and Milton Keynes to the new building at Pineham. The firm currently employs 15 people at its Northampton base, and this could rise to 50 people as the business grows following its relocation.
WNDC Director of Planning Services, Adrian Arnold said: “The new business units will be an excellent addition to Pineham, which is becoming one of Northampton’s key employment areas. It’s important that we are able to support growing businesses such as EBC Brakes and Frem Ltd and ensure that they are able to fulfil their ambitions in Northampton.”
A spokesman for EBC Brakes Ltd said: “EBC Brakes has been in Northampton since its inception in 1978 and over its 32 years in business has grown from a single one-man trader selling from a van to be the manufacturer of the largest range of vehicle brakes in the world, with sales approaching £60 million. With a global workforce of over 400, EBC Brakes is proud to have made Northampton the home for its world headquarters and be able to sustain British jobs and exports.”
Bryan Daisey, Managing Director of Frem Ltd said: “This represents an excellent opportunity for our business to move to a prestigious new facility here in Northampton. It was important for us to try and achieve our expansion in the town and not only retain our workforce, but expand it from within the local area if possible’” Both EBC Brakes and Frem Ltd were advised by Planning Consultants Architectural and Planning Ltd (APC).
Richard Colson from the firm added: “The submission and subsequent approval of the scheme shows the dedication of these two firms to remain and grow in Northampton”.
Northampton-based Chartered Surveyors Budworth Hardcastle, have advised on the land acquisition, and will project manage the construction of the new buildings.
