Local transport gets a funding boost from WNDC
West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC) has transferred over £1 million to Northamptonshire County Council to invest in local transport, including roads and bus services.
The funding is derived from developer contributions to infrastructure, which WNDC secures through section 106 agreements when it grants planning permission for new development. Since being established, WNDC has secured nearly £50 million through this process, which will be collected as new development progresses.
By using a standard charge system, the Corporation has been able to negotiate much higher levels of contributions than the area has received in the past. This includes over £9million for the 450 home Grange Park scheme, as well as £8.7million for the 550 home Princess Marina Development in Northampton.
Funding is collected during the course of a new development and nearly £4million has been received so far. WNDC is transferring the funding to relevant bodies, including the local authorities, so it can be invested in local infrastructure spanning transport, education, healthcare and community facilities.
WNDC Chief Executive Peter Mawson said: “This latest funding transfer will be invested in vital local transport services by the county council. There is significantly more funding in the pipeline as we have secured nearly £50 million in developer contributions to date. It will be invested in local infrastructure ranging from bus services to new schools and healthcare centres.”
“These contributions are essential to support growing communities and are just one of the ways we are raising funding to invest in the future of the area.”
