Cllr Joy Capstick

Councillor Joy Capstick moved to Northampton from London more than 10 years ago. Like many of the families she represents in Lumbertubs ward on Northampton Borough Council, Joy relocated with her young family looking for green space, affordable housing and a real community spirit. Joy worked as a Registered nurse within the NHS for many years and remains committed to its founding ethos of health care based on need.

Joy has worked in Romania for the Kings Fund, producing an influential report on the requirements needed for the future development of health care.

Graduating in Politics and Modern History from Brunel University, Joy gained political and constituency casework experience working with her local MP before being elected as a Borough Councillor. A passionate advocate for social justice, equal opportunities and a voice for local people, Joy is a school Governor, a trustee for a local charity helping victims of abuse and co-founded a local sporting club for young people.

Currently working as a civil servant, Joy is an elected representative for the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS). Joy is a lifelong member of the Labour Party and also a member of the Co-Operative Party.

Joy also sits on the Standards Board for Northampton Borough Council and firmly believes that integrity must lie at the heart of any decision making public body.
