Swan Valley is a flagship business location in the south west of Northampton. WNDC has been the planning authority as well as an investor in some key developments in the area.
In 2008, the Corporation approved plans for a major new Royal Mail distribution centre, providing a permanent replacement for the Barrack Road sorting office which caught fire in 2003 as well as replacing an ageing sorting office in Coventry. The £70million development employs almost 1,000 people.
As part of its efforts to attract high quality new jobs to Northampton, WNDC has directly invested in a £4million building at Swan Valley known as Heron house. The Corporation made a £575,000 investment through Northamptonshire Enterprise’s ‘fit for market’ scheme. At 22,200 sq ft, it will be significantly larger than many of the town’s existing offices, filling a gap in the current market and supporting 200 new jobs.
