The award winning St John’s masterplan has set the aspiration for a specialist cultural area in Northampton town centre that will encourage business in the creative arts to flourish, while relaxed public open spaces could be accompanied by quality cafés, restaurants and specialist shops.

WNDC has worked with Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council to produce the masterplan, which covers the area around Bridge Street, St John’s and Angel Street.

WNDC has previously made significant investment in the heritage and cultural assets in this part of Northampton, including the renovation of the Royal and Derngate theatre as well as the provision of new visitor facilities at 78 Derngate.

There is a long-term vision to build on these attractions, providing a centre for arts and culture alongside a base for public services and employment. WNDC is working with the local authorities, who are the main landowners in the area, to take the plans forward.
