In 2006, WNDC invested £1.4 million in the development of Northampton’s cultural attractions. This included supporting the Northampton Arts Collective, (NAC) to refurbish the old Fishmarket in Northampton town centre, transforming it into one of the country’s most exciting contemporary arts venues.
Originally built in the 1930′s, the Fishmarket closed in 2006. However, supported by WNDC and other local partners, the Northampton Arts Collective has resurrected the building into an inspirational and vibrant part of the town centre.
Featuring the largest gallery space outside a city in the UK this impressive building has been transformed into a hub for creative activity. As well as two gallery and performance spaces, the Fishmarket is home to a diverse range of independent retailers as well as a café bar.
It is a driving force in Northampton’s arts and culture scene and plays host to a number of cutting edge events and exhibitions.
