Local people have their say on Towcester’s proposed Moat Lane development
Local people have been taking part in a consultation about proposals for the regeneration of the Moat Lane area in Towcester.
The plans were exhibited at two public events held at the Mill on Chantry Lane last week. Both the events, which were held on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24thJuly, were well attended and prompted a significant amount of constructive feedback.
The application is being subject to a public consultation exercise and anyone interested in the scheme still has until Friday 6th August 2010 to respond to West Northamptonshire Development Corporation, which is the planning authority for the development.
The Outline Planning application proposes some major enhancements to Towcester town centre, including new offices, a community library and registry office, as well as improved leisure facilities including a new hotel, restaurant, cafes and bars, improved car parking, and additional shops. This is focused around the restored Bury Mount and recently opened Watermeadows.
Adrian Arnold, Director of Planning Services at West Northamptonshire Development Corporation said: “The public exhibition provided local people with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Moat Lane scheme and ask the project team any questions. We’d like to remind anyone that is interested in the development that they have until Friday 6th August to submit their consultation responses. We look forward to receiving everyone’s views.”
Details of the outline planning application can be viewed at WNDC’s offices in Northampton or by using its online search planning applications function and entering the application reference 10/0102/OUTWNS. Further information on the scheme can also be found at http://www.moatlane.org/.
The Moat Lane project is led by South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire County Council and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation. It has benefited from significant funding and support from these organisations as well as Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited, the East Midlands Development Agency and the Homes & Communities Agency.
